Ever feel stuck thinking about yesterday or worrying about tomorrow? We all do! Let the Mooderators show you how to “be now” in the present moment, by focusing on what you see all around you.
I'm Skylar. [SPANISH] Clara. And we're the Mooderators. Hi there, friends. We're so glad you're here. Hello. And speaking of being here, sometimes, even when you're here, your thoughts might be somewhere else. You might be stuck thinking about yesterday or worried about tomorrow. Here's an exercise for those times, so instead of feeling distracted or even kind out of control, we can feel settled and OK, right here, right now. Let's use our senses. Our senses are what we see, hear, smell, feel, and taste. And they can be really useful to help us enjoy the current moment, help our busy brains settle, and can help calm strong emotions. Mm-hm. For this practice, we'll use just one sense, sight, or what we can see, and we'll try it now. Great. Let's see now to be now. Together. [CHUCKLES] First, sit in a comfortable way. Feet become still. Hands can rest. Shoulders ease and relax. Turn your head slowly, quietly. And look for something red, anything red. Once your eyes see that one red thing, gently focus on it a little while. Notice its size. And now its texture. Is it rough or smooth? Keep looking at it. Focus on it for a little bit more. [BIRDS CHIRPING] [CHIMES] Good job. You're doing great. Now, move your eyes to find something teeny tiny. Maybe it's hard to see, but try anyway. Look closely at the small thing for a little while. Is it smooth? Rough? Or something else? Just keep focusing on it for a few seconds more. [BIRDS CHIRPING] [CHIMES] Hey, you're definitely getting the hang of this. This time, use your eyes to look for something big, maybe bigger than you. Just one thing. Now, is it shiny? Or a little dull? Maybe you can see through it. Or not. It's all good. We're just noticing. A few seconds more. [BIRDS CHIRPING] [CHIMES] Great job. And finally, find something that is really close, near to your eyes. Maybe your shoe, a pencil, or your thumb. Gently focus your eyes there. Notice its size, shape, and color. Keep it in focus for a little while longer. [BIRDS CHIRPING] One more moment. Eyes on that close thing. And we're done. [CHIMES] You did amazing observing things around you while also being present. Yeah, maybe, like me, you noticed that you felt distracted at first, but that's normal. When we take a little time to practice, we can slow down, focus on one thing, and just breathe. We don't want to miss the current moments by being too distracted by our thoughts and emotions. See now to be now is something we can each do to come back and enjoy the right now. (SINGING) Focus on one thing at a time To calm yourself and ground your mind Let's take five Just remember-- (BOTH) We're here for you. (SINGING) For you, for you, for you [BIRDS CHIRPING]
